KISS ~ Brief Bio

Formed in 1973, KISS rose to fame rather quickly. Maybe it was their style of music and outrageous make-up that made this American hard rock band stand out of the crowd. Their live performances were very elaborate with out of this world “which featured fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits and pyrotechnics”

The original founding members of KISS included Paul Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals and bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals). The era of 1975 till 1978 belonged to this band. They spawned hits after hits and their records sold by the millions.

From the day KISS was formed till the present, there were breakups and deaths which somewhat faltered their career. In September 18, 1983, the members of KISS decided that it was time to unmask and do away with the make-ups and costumes.

Coinciding with the release of the band’s new album, “Lick It Up” they made their appearance in MTV in their original appearance, without the make-up and costumes. In November of 1983, KISS started their “unmasked” tour in Lisbon, Portugal. The album “Lick It Up” eventually turned gold.

Counting the 1978 solo albums, Kiss has been awarded 28 gold albums to date, the most of any American rock band. The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 24 million have been certified by the RIAA and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time.

Mungo Jerry ~ Brief Bio

Many have perceived that Mungo Jerry is the name of a solo artist, not realising that it is in fact a group that originally had 4 members. The 4 founding members of Mungo Jerry consisted of group leader Ray Dorset, pianist Colin Earl, bassist Mike Cole and Paul King who played the banjo and jug and they started off as a British rock group.

Throughout the years, Mungo Jerry changed their members so many times that it became quite difficult to follow up. However, despite the frequent changes, leader Ray Dorset always held court. Till today, he remains the only existing original member of the group.

Mungo Jerry’s most glorious years was during the late Seventies. Their mega hit, “In The Summertime” became the most successful hit touching the number one spot in the UK Hit Singles and making it to number 3 in the US. Despite their success in Britain, Mungo Jerry did not fare that well in the US. “In The Summertime” was the only single that made it to the US Chart.

From the Seventies till today Mungo Jerry has released more than 20 albums, the latest being “Cool Jesus” in 2012.
