One of my favorites hits in the Seventies was the song Imagine by John Lennon. The song sung with so much passion speaks of the feelings of the young generation of that era. It was tumultuous times with the Vietnam war that the United States was on the verge of losing.

The whole world was watching in awe, witnessing how a super power with all it superior war arsenal can actually be losing to some third world guerrillas that depended on nothing but battle worn rifles sheer ingenuity. The US could find no answer to their hit and run tactics of the Vietcong and till today, many a horror stories of the war is being told and re-told.

It was also a time when flower power was at it’s peak. Peace, Not War was the slogan and there was frequent protest in the US to bring their armies home. Hippy singers of that time who worships peace more than anyone else sung and prayed for world peace.

“Imagine” written and sung by John Lennon was one of those. It remained a popular tune, even till today and whatever was expressed in the song still apyly applies to the world we live in today.
