Everything that has a beginning,
Will inevitably have an ending,
Some has the courage to continue striving,
Me have lost that will to go on slogging.

Maybe it’s true what they have been saying,
How much you eat and how much spend is a fated thing,
Some clicks their fingers and success comes a calling,
Some staggers through thick and thin but comes out with nothing.

Can’t complain as all are my own doings,
Never tried to find excuses to cover my short comings,
Don’t blame anyone for I am my own being,
Cos I did have a brain only but it wasn’t half working.

Never expected this would be my last and final fling,
Thought I could achieve some and maybe live like a king,
Seems now the curtains are slowing and finally closing,
Another chapter of my life comes to a fruitless ending.

Most of everything are packed and ready for transporting,
Every cent that i owed, i will be repaying,
I can easily end up with nothing and anything,
So be it, though it is a terribly sore feeling.

Some asked, what will you be doing,
And how am I going to support my living,
Fear not, for I am still earning,
A small income from all my blogging.

Drop by if you are free mornings or evenings,
Leave me a comment if you want to say something,
I should have time to spare for some bullshitting,
For friends, I’m not dying, I’m only retiring…

One of the best selling movie released in the early 70s was a disaster movie titled, Airport. Opened in cinemas in 1970, this movie was such a big success at the box office that it single handedly spurned the production of a host of other disaster movies not to mention a string of sequels like Airport 75, Airport 77, Concorde Airport 77 and many others.

This 1970 movie, considered a big budget production stared 70s star Burt Lancaster as the airport manager, Van Heflin as the suicidal bomber, Helen Hayes who plays an old lady who likes to sneaks aboard aircrafts, a role which won her an Oscar, Dean Martin as the pilot who was having an affair with a stewardess played by Jacqueline Bisset. All these were huge names in Hollwood during the 1970s.

The storyline if viewed now will be considered boring but it was something very refreshing during the Seventies when movies of this genre has not been exploited yet. basically it has all the elements needed for and air disaster waiting to happen. The blizzard, the bomber, the old stowaway and the affair all contributed to become what was to be the thriller of that decade.

Airport won an Acedemy Award for Best Supporting Actress through Helen Hayes. It also garnered sevral nominations which includes, Best Picture (Ross Hunter – Producer), Supporting Actress (Maureen Stapleton), Writing (George Seaton), Art Direction/Set Decoration (Alexander Golitzen, Preston Ames, Jack D. Moore, Mickey S. Michaels), Cinematography (Ernest Laszlo), Costume Design (Edith Head), Film Editing (Stuart Gilmore), Best Original Score (Alfred Newman), and Sound (Ronald Pierce, David Moriarty).

Truly, Airport The Movies was one of the more sensational movies of the Seventies.

During the 70s, the world was in an element of it’s own. Many things happened during the 1970s that made the world what it is today. The Vietnam war was raging and daily demonstrations was aired over the TV calling for Peace. “Peace Not War” became a slogan and the two finger “V” sign was became a symbol representing peace rather than victory. The Seventies was also the era of Flower Power and Woodstock. Drugs and free sex was propagated freely and a whole new generation of what we called “hippies” was born.

The Fashion Of the 70s

In the 1970s, the fashion sense took a very colorful turn. It was bell bottomed jeans and multi colored pulled over mostly drawn and dyed personally by the person wearing it. Jeans must be dirty and have bottoms as wide as a broom so that it covers the whole foot and sweeps the streets that are walked on.

It was also the time when tie dying was made popular. Most teenagers of the seventies knows how to tie and dye their T shirts the way they want. It was a form of expression and rebellion. Many parents would shout and scream at the sight of the T-Shirt they bought for their kids being turned into a piece of multi colored rag.

A compulsory accessory to go with the 70s look is the coarse and long metal necklace that hangs around the necks. Most of the time, it isn’t even a necklace, it is a piece of metal chain with the a huge metal symbol pf “Peace” hanging at the end.

The other item that compliment the whole 1970s look is the head band or the head scarves. Tied around their shoulder length and unkempt hair, this piece of adornment make a person of the seventies complete.

HairStyles Of The 1970s

There is no other hairstyle in the 1970s other then the long flowing hair the must exceed beyond the shoulders. Preferably the hair should be straight without any curls so that the hair will flow naturally. Many took the look of John Lenon and his wife. Yoko Ono’s hairstyle.

It was really a time when it is cool to be rebellious, going against the norm of the years gone by when it is cool to grease their hair. Parents can only watch in horror at their kids turning into some kind of freak and an outcast of society.

Songs And Music Of The Seventies

Most seventies hit songs and the music of that era is about peace, love and not war. In the singing about love it will not the kind of love between a man and a woman. It will be for the love of mankind, for the love of the planet and for the love of peace and harmony.

Hit songs like Imagine by John Lenon took the world by storm as everyone in the 70s could relate to the problem faced during that era. Any cool 70s guy worth his salt would learn to strum the guitar, learn the chords for that song and make it their anthem of life.

Hotel California by the Eagles was also one of the most popular songs of the Seventies and so was Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Another favorite was Sweet Child Of Mine By Deep Purple. There were practically hundreds of hit songs during the Seventies and many remains evergreens, enjoyed by millions till today.

Movies Of The 70s.

The 70s saw many breakthroughs in movie making. More sophisticated technology have been invented and the seventies marked the emergence of the computer aided animations that made science fictions more realistic and believable.

Movies like Airport 1970 took disaster movies to another level, paving way for a string of other “Airport” disaster movies.

By the middle of the 70s, another phenomena took over the world and that is the Disco Era. Spawned by the hit movie, Saturday Night Fever, every one took to the floor with fingers thrusting in the air and hip swaying to the music. John Travolta became an instant household name and so did the Bee Gees, who had 3 single topping the chart in 1978.

Late 1970s was the best years as somehow, the 70s decade got out of it’s early gloom and became very vibrant. Big budget movies like APOCALYPSE NOW starring Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando became Hollywood Blockbusters.

The Seventies is surely a period where important events took place that shaped the world we now know so well. For those who missed living in the 1970s, they missed lots. It was a time when simple things like a plate of french fries dipped in ketchup eaten amidst the blasts of the rock and roll music from the jukebox was all we needed. And just as a reminder of what we missed in this so-called IT age, sit back, close your eyes, enjoy this song, American Pie by Don Mclean, one of the biggest hits of the 70s.

One of my favorites hits in the Seventies was the song Imagine by John Lennon. The song sung with so much passion speaks of the feelings of the young generation of that era. It was tumultuous times with the Vietnam war that the United States was on the verge of losing.

The whole world was watching in awe, witnessing how a super power with all it superior war arsenal can actually be losing to some third world guerrillas that depended on nothing but battle worn rifles sheer ingenuity. The US could find no answer to their hit and run tactics of the Vietcong and till today, many a horror stories of the war is being told and re-told.

It was also a time when flower power was at it’s peak. Peace, Not War was the slogan and there was frequent protest in the US to bring their armies home. Hippy singers of that time who worships peace more than anyone else sung and prayed for world peace.

“Imagine” written and sung by John Lennon was one of those. It remained a popular tune, even till today and whatever was expressed in the song still apyly applies to the world we live in today.

Play The Funky Music is probably one of the biggest hits of the Seventies. Naturally, it also became one of my favorite party songs. During that period, there was no such thing called a disco yet along my shores though the phenomena was already catching on like wild fire in more advanced countries. So it was weekly “parties” for us.

In reality, it wasn’t much of a party. Just the usual gang sitting jamming together with the cassette recorder blasting away. Yes it was cassette recorders. Do not know what was a CD back then. Never heard of one even. The most modern and advanced musical gadget was the cassette recorder.

The opening strum of the bass guitar from “Play the funky music” became like sort of an anthem to us then. It was hot and it was funky and every one went a little crazy when the funky music starts.
